MORE MUD & MORE VOLUNTEERS!

There was no rain on Saturday but the rain on Friday had left the site a muddy mess.  Regardless, there were two big groups that showed up to help build this home. Thanks again Charter Communications and Heartland Baptist Church‎ for taking the time to organize and help build the Kuhlman Home.

THE ROOF IS FINISHED!

The roof is shingled and finished thanks to the girl’s brother (Josh) and his motivated crew that arrived at 6am to start and finish the roofing by noon.

THE EARLY MORNING MUD STOPPED NO ONE!

Even with the heavy Friday rain we had still had over 30 volunteers show up at Saturday at 7am for the first shift. The morning shift had several Whiteman AFB folks from Airman Leadership Class to the Company Grade Officers Council along with several other individuals around base/town.  The afternoon shift had even 20 more Airman from the Airman Leadership Class that showed up after a morning of raising money washing cars.  Even though our goal of getting the outer walls in place didn’t happen, we had a lot of motivated people that got a dozen projects completed Saturday. Some of the projects that were completed include waterproofing the basement walls from the inside, completing all the inside walls, setting the rim joist and floor joists, laying out the sub floor, building the volunteer rest/shade area, and to the crew that help organize all the lumber and supplies on site(See Photo Gallery.) Many thanks to everyone who helped and the two group leaders (Corey Hendershot-ALS Class 08-F, and Andrew Zanrucha - Company Grade Officer Council) for their time in getting their groups organized for such a successful build.  I also would like to thank Sonic for providing over 50 free meals to the hard working volunteers.  The Job site will be open up all week, just sign up so the worksite supervisors has an idea of the group size.

THE HOME HAS STARTED TO TAKE SHAPE!!

On June 7th we had a very successful build day.  The rim joist was put in place, the walkout basement wall was raised, and the main 40 foot floor beam was set!  I would like to thank Time for Tea and Subway for supplying a well needed lunch after a sunny and busy build.  I especially would like to thank the volunteers who came out to help.  We should get the walls up this weekend as long as weather is good.

LET'S START BUILDING!!! THE FLOOR IS FINALLY IN PLACE.

The basement floor has been set finally!  Thanks to Sonic for keeping up hydrated and full during the pour. Now is the time everyone has been waiting for, the hands-on stick building.  The first build date will be 7 June, which will be setting up the basement wall and getting the rim joist in place.  Please, log into the volunteer side of the website to set yourself or a group to work. The June calendar is loaded and July will dates will be loaded as the construction progresses.  If you belong to a group or you are group leader and would like to schedule a specific time and date in June, just send [ email ]  the requested information and someone will be in touch.  There are still several positions on the Construction Committee that need assistance and if anyone is interested let us know.

THE FOOTING HAS BEEN POURED10 APR 08

-- As you can see the weather has not been very nice to the foundation crew, which means more delays for volunteers to come out and swing a hammer. For now, it looks like the projected framing time/ volunteer day will be 3 May 2008.
-- Good news, the construction committee was made a great offer for the purchase of engineered silent floor joists.  Our thanks to Jennifer in commercial sales at Lowes in Warrensburg for negotiating with her venders; this will help speed up the framing process when the foundation is done.
-- Due to the delay, the construction committee is going to try and run a double shift Saturday crew once the foundation is done.  The sooner we get a roof on this house the more accurate we can be with volunteer days.
-- The construction committee is still need of experienced builders and contractors willing to volunteer their time as crew leaders please [ email ] me to set up a time for an interview.

EXCAVATION STARTED (28 March)

The SOUTHSIDE RED-E-MIX Crew has started the excavation part for the foundation.  If the weather permits the forms should be in place by Thursday 10 April and ready for cement soon after that.

FIRST VOLUNTEER BUILD DAYS DELAYED DUE TO SPRING RAIN

We are going to have to cancel the volunteer build dates (29 March and 5 April) due the recent rains that have put the foundation work about 2-weeks behind schedule.  I apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may have caused but please keep checking back on the web site for information regarding the volunteer build schedule.  If there are any volunteers out there that have a great deal of construction experience; please drop me an [ email ], we are always looking for more construction leads for weekend and possible weekday work.

Thanks Again
